2009 Belly Dancer Of the Universe

Group Champions!!

When asked to dance at a WNBA half-time show Belly Dancer Sedona had her first “troupe” vision. Imagining herself on a huge basketball court all by her lonesome inspired her to gather a group of local PDX dancers and take the gig as a troupe. The original group consisted of six girls including the esteemed Yemaya (now in Costa Rica) and Delpha Turley (now in Istanbul). As time went on Sedona’s creative troupe vision grew and grew. Soon the group began to call themselves Raks Awalim, under this name and Sedona’s direction the ensemble had the privilege of dancing at many exciting venues in the Continental United States, along with being named the 2007 Belly Dance Troupe USA and the 2008 Belly Dance Troupe of the Year. During this time Sedona and acclaimed dancer Claudia grew into Raks Awalims main choreographers. Claudia and Sedona’s heart and soul became the driving force behind the group. Their intense passion for dance and group choreographies lead them to create the winning routine that got them named the 2009 Belly Dancer of the Universe Troupe Champions. As a duet they called themselves Belly Dance Soulfire.

Their drive to elevate the sacred art of Belly Dance and their commitment to their own personal growth as dancers, instructors and choreographers inspired them to align with 2009 Belly Dancer USA, Ruby and Sambali founder, Shara. These four dancers along with Belly Dance Soulfires sister company Soulfire Productions are here with passion, love and a strong desire to create all of the dreams and visions that burn bright within their SOULFIRE!!!
